Russia’s Aeroflot said it carried over 475,000 passengers on 3,110 flights over the December 31 – January 8 period. With the carrier facing difficulties internationally due to sanctions imposed on Russia in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine, most of the traffic was domestic. Around 340,000 passengers took flights within the vast country, which spans 11 time zones. In 2021, prior to the invasion, Aeroflot and subsidiary airline passenger numbers topped 45 million. The carrier recently announced a new route linking the Siberian city of Irkutsk with Bangkok.
