The extension of the north terminal at Macau International Airport (MIA) has been completed and the building has officially opened to passengers. Mott MacDonald has been involved in the project since concept, providing a range of engineering and advisory services. In 2017, MIA handled over seven million passengers, recorded over 58,000 aircraft movements and transported 37,000 tonnes of cargo. These are the highest figures seen at the airport in its 22 years of operation and the reason why it is currently ranked ninth in the world when comparing passenger traffic volume with local population figures.
