Qantas cancels more flight despite lifting of strike

Even though the strike has been called off by maintenance engineers, Qantas was forced to cancel 40 flights yesterday. It also delayed or rescheduled a further 24 and brought forward 14 flights to cope with the changes. Some 11 flights have already been cancelled today. Members of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association plan to strike on Friday in addition to further overtime bans and one-hour stoppages. In a further blow to the airline, the Australian Services Union members, which represents Qantas’ budget airline Jetstar counter staff, are planning to refuse to charge passengers excess baggage on Jetstar flights on Friday at check-in desks. The action could cost Jetstar $50,000 in lost revenue.
