The UK Transport Secretary has demanded NATS, the UK air traffic management authority, launch a full investigation into the computer failure on Friday that closed UK airspace for 35 minutes, leading to severe delays and flight cancellations in London and other parts of Europe spilled over into Saturday. The problem was traced to the computer system at NATS. “Disruption on this scale is simply unacceptable and I have asked NATS for a full explanation of this evening’s incident,” Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said. NATS says it will release “further information” about the cause of the outage when it becomes available.
