South Carolina has been asked to cover a $2.9 million shortfall for Boeing’s North Charleston plant that will assemble the 787. The state has already invested $275 million in startup costs and has granted close to $900 million in incentives. The State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education provided $3.1 million to cover initial training startup costs and $3.5 million to cover training through June 2011, but there is still a shortfall. The state’s financial oversight board will decide on the request on December 14.
