Simon Beech, Chief Operating Office (UK) of Nasmyth Group attended BAE Systems’ prestigious Chairman’s Award scheme to celebrate the delivery of a key component for an aircraft in-flight refuelling system. The in-flight refuelling (IFR) coupling was classed as a critical risk factor which could delay delivery of BAE Systems’ programme if consistency of supply could not be achieved. BAE Systems investigated several options and in April 2015 Nasmyth Metallics Bullwell embarked on the mission to deliver the IFR coupling as a machine-from-solid component using a complex 5-axis machining. This method offers 100% consistency and accuracy and eliminated all the issues
