GE Aviation confirmed it will acquire an ex-JAL Boeing 747-400 and convert it into a flying testbed to replace its current one, which is the oldest version of the 747 still flying in the US and the fifth oldest in the world. GE said it is spending $60 million to purchase and refurbish the CF6-80C2-powered aircraft.
