Airbus expands A380 configuration options

Airbus Vice President-Cabin Innovation and Design Ingo Wuggetzer has confirmed at the Aircraft Interiors Expo that the manufacturer is now offering an 11-abreast economy-seat configuration on the A380. From 2017, operators of the aircraft type can now choose between 10 or 11-abreast economy seating with seats from Zodiac and Geven. The seats will be able to be installed on the existing rails so that no extra floor work is needed. However Airbus will need to move the inboard bins slightly to make access easier from the aisle.

Wuggetzer stated that market forces are generating demand for better equipped economy cabins as the premium share of traffic remains depressed since the financial crisis. As well as the A380, Airbus plans to offer new configurations including nine abreast on the A330 and 10-abreast on the A350.
