Zambia seeks Chinese money to launch a national airline

Africa is being transformed by an influx of Chinese investment from building roads and investing in agriculture. Zambia has benefited greatly from China’s interest in the continent and now the president is seeking its help to re-establish a national airline.

President Sata attended a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Le Kequiang in Beijing where he made the request. “I have come here to thank China for helping Zambia to develop. The Chinese have done tremendous things in Zambia,” Sata said. “Apart from building Tazara (Tanzania Zambia Railway), the Chinese are also doing many other great things. I would, therefore, like you to come and help us to re-establish Zambia Airways.”
