To secure its new alliance with Emirates Qantas will need to gain approval from regulators in several jurisdictions including the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC). Alan Joyce, chief executive of Qantas, says he is confident that he can demonstrate to regulators that the public will not suffer. Under the terms of the deal, Qantas will re-route its 14 weekly London services through Dubai and abandon its Frankfurt service. Joyce confirmed that as there were 28 carriers flying between Australia and Europe, the deal with Emirates would allow Qantas to be competitive.
