NEW INDIAN MINISTER FOR CIVIL AVIATION

Vayalar Ravi has been appointed as the new minister for civil aviation in India. Air India hopes that Ravi’s appointment will mean Air India gets a level playing field when it came to allotment of terminals, lounges, or check-in counters at airports. Under a new minister, analysts say Air India will be able to take decisions in its interest with regard to leasing of aircraft rather than be forced by an ‘‘over-powering minister” says sources quoted in local media. However without Praful Patel’s support, the troubled airline would not have been able to secure Rs2000 crore of equity infusion.
