Vayalar Ravi has been appointed as the new minister for civil aviation in India. Air India hopes that Ravi’s appointment will mean Air India gets a level playing field when it came to allotment of terminals, lounges, or check-in counters at airports. Under a new minister, analysts say Air India will be able to take decisions in its interest with regard to leasing of aircraft rather than be forced by an ‘‘over-powering minister” says sources quoted in local media. However without Praful Patel’s support, the troubled airline would not have been able to secure Rs2000 crore of equity infusion.
