MUSCAT

MUSCAT — In implementation of the Council of Ministers’ resolution, the Ministry of Finance has issued a circular to all government institutions as well as those which are 50 per cent or more owned by the government to avail the services of Oman Air when issuing air tickets to or from the Sultanate for employees. These organisations should also deal with the national carrier in hotel bookings and the provision of logistic services and air cargo.
It came in the circular which was issued by Darwish bin Ismaeel al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs, that all government and semi-government institutions should deal with the national carrier in the cases of employees’ annual leaves, medical treatment and end of services or when sending affiliates abroad for the purposes of training or official tasks or any other purposes.
The circular also stated that tickets for employees should be availed from Oman Air in case it has direct flights to the required destination or to the nearest connection point if the carrier has no direct flights to the required destination.
Only in case that Oman Air has no flights on the set date can the government organisation transfer it to other carriers.
The decision also stated that the government institution should give priority to the national carrier when floating tenders for group travel tickets. In the case of non-availability of first class tickets at all aviation companies booking should be made on the business class and when the latter is not available booking should be made on the tourist class.
Oman Air recently expanded its fleet of Boeing 737-800s with the introduction of two additional aircraft, bringing the airline’s total fleet strength to 30. In addition to the two new aircraft, the fleet includes 15 B737-800s, two B737-700s, four Airbus A330-200s, three A330-300s, four Embraer E175 regional jests and two ATR 42s.
