Judge clears AA-US Airways merger

U.S. District Court Judge Sean Lane has ruled that the anti-trust settlement has not altered American’s bankruptcy-reorganization plan and has rejected a request by a group of consumers, including Joseph Alioto, to block the deal temporarily. Lane stated that Alioto had failed to show that the merger would hurt consumers. The merger between American Airlines and US Airways is now cleared to complete and the airline plans to complete the deal on December 9.

If Alioto wins his lawsuit, he will be able to demand additional divestitures by the two airlines but he will not be able to stop the merger.
