Iranian regulator moves to ban aging aircraft

A new directive issued by the Iran Civil Aviation Organization (IrCAO) could see all commercial aircraft over 20 years old banned from active service with Iran Air.

IrCAO Director General, Alireza Jahangirian stated that the directive was part of a raft of measures the regulator has created, in order to push airlines to renew their fleets with younger aircraft.

Jahangirian said: “Increasing the safety of flights is among the top priorities of Iran Civil Aviation Organization. The sanctions imposed on Iran caused a lot of problems for the country’s aviation industry, but we are trying our best to renovate and equip the Iranian airlines.”
