The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued notices to all airline CEOs asking them to explain why travellers were being charged excessive fares. The move follows a probe by the regulator that found domestic airfares from Monday (November 15) have been “substantially higher” than in the past weeks for no clear reason. Airlines have until Friday to explain. “This kind of exorbitant fares can simply not be allowed. We are going to take the strictest possible action,” said aviation minister Praful Patel.
