The European Parliament has passed a non-binding resolution to modernize air traffic control in Europe. Under the terms of the resolution passed adopted by transport and tourism committee members, the European Commission must pressure member states to meet their obligations regarding Single European Sky (SES) implementation. If targets are not met, the Commission may start to impose sanctions on non-compliant states. Member states agreed to merge national airspaces into nine Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) by December 4 but work is progressing slowly and only two FABs are operational (NUAC covering Denmark and Sweden, and the UK-Ireland FAB).
