US-based record labels have filed a copyright claim against Dublin-based Inflight Audio Ltd., over licensing technicalities that claim airlines that are supplied by Inflight are not allowed to “publicly perform” music through their in-flight entertainment systems outside Ireland, without Inflight paying royalties to the relevant music publishers. Inflight’s contract is allegedly limited to music distribution within Ireland. Inflight contests the issue as it states that it is incapable of controlling how an airline handles the material and where it operates to.
