Aviation Capital Group delivers first 737 MAX to Royal Air Maroc, appoints Chief OEM Officer

Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has delivered the first of six Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft to Royal Air Maroc, as it simultaneously announced a new senior leadership appointment aimed at deepening ties with manufacturers.

The aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines, is the first in a six-aircraft lease agreement between ACG and the Moroccan carrier, with the remaining five jets scheduled for delivery through 2026. ACG chief executive Thomas Baker said the deal builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies and supports Royal Air Maroc’s fleet modernisation.

The airline’s CEO Abdelhamid Addou said the new aircraft would strengthen its short- and medium-haul network and support its ambition to expand connectivity between Africa, Europe and global markets.

In a separate move, ACG appointed Rob Downes as its first Chief OEM Officer, a newly created role focused on managing relationships with aircraft and engine manufacturers.

Downes, who joined the lessor in 2018 and most recently served as Chief Investment Officer, will lead engagement with OEM partners as the industry navigates ongoing supply chain challenges.

Baker said the role reflects the “foundational” importance of manufacturer partnerships to ACG’s long-term strategy, while Downes added he would work closely with OEMs to address current challenges and support future growth.
