AIR's heavy-lift VTOL cargo drone completes first flight

VTOL developer AIR has completed the first flight of its production AIR cargo-heavy lift UAS jet.

AIR said the flight test marks a “significant step forward in autonomous heavy-lift aviation".

The aircraft has a payload capacity of around 550 lbs. The jet has over 25 units ordered and paid for.

The aircraft is purpose-built for logistics missions such as remote resupply, contested logistics, maritime operations, humanitarian aid, and commercial cargo delivery.

“We've spent two years refining this aircraft against real operational demands, not benchmarks or simulations,” said AIR CEO and cofounder Rani Plaut. “Delivering that now, at this scale, is what we set out to do.”
