AMR Corp., the parent of American Airlines, has appointed Andrew Backover as vice president of corporate communications. He will oversee media relations, communications with employees, and publications such as the American Way in-flight magazine. He had been managing director of the department. Backover replaces Roger Frizzell, who left AMR to take a job with San Francisco-based utility Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Charles Schubert was named vice president of network planning succeeding Walter Aue, who will retire Dec. 1. Schubert will oversee the planning of routes and regional airline service.
