Saudia A330 landed without nose gear – no fatalities

A Saudia A330-200 made an emergency landing at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah with no nose gear following a technical malfunction in the aircraft’s hydraulic system.

Flight 3818 had departed from the Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah heading to the Dhaka airport in Bangladesh, with 141 passengers onboard. Some 52 passengers suffered minor injuries and another was left with fractures.

Saudi’s Aviation Investigation Bureau (AIB) is investigating the incident but a spokesperson for Saudia stated that although the pilot had “made several attempts but failed to correct the malfunction with the front landing gear. Subsequently, the Airbus 330 made an emergency landing with the nose gear retracted”.

The aircraft ,which is on lease from Turkish airline Onur Air, is reported to have suffered heavy damage on landing.
