Russian aircraft plagued by fake parts

Russian deputy prime minister Sergei Ivanov has stated that a large number of counterfeit spare parts for the aviation industry enter Russia from former Soviet republics and are jeopardising flight safety on military and commercial aircrafts. Official statistics from an inspection of more than 60,000 aircraft parts show 14,500 of them were counterfeit. “In plain Russian, they’re all fakes,” Ivanov says. Ivanov has confirmed that the government was working on a programme to modernise existing production capacity and build new high-tech production lines.
