A fire has been reported on board a Japan Airlines (JAL) 787 when it was parked at Boston Logan Airport. The fire occurred in the avionics compartment underneath in the middle of the fuselage that fire fighters claim appeared to originate in a battery used by the 787’s auxiliary power unit (APU). The fire, which erupted when there were no passengers on board, was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. The US National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident, while Boeing is working with JAL to determine the cause of the fire.
