IATA SLAMS ISRAEL SAFETY RECORD

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has criticised Israel for its inferior aviation safety record. The association caused the safety situation a “national embarrassment” and warned of the economic damage the low safety ranking could cause Israeli airlines and passengers. IATA CEO Giovanni Bisignani urged Israel to upgrade its safety ranking to category 1 swiftly.  “Israel has been in category two for far too long…It is a costly situation for Israel’s reputation and for the financial health of its carriers,” he said.

The US Federal Aviation Administration downgraded Israel’s aviation safety status to category two in January 2009 and IATA has warned it will follow suit if improvement weren’t made.
