Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, has deemed the European emissions trading scheme (ETS) as nothing more than an extra tax on airlines. He commented that rather than helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, governments were using airlines as “cashcows” for their own inefficiencies, and called for them to work with airlines.
