The European Commission (EC) has opened an investigation into United Technology’s (UTC) proposed acquisition of Goodrich after preliminary investigations indicated potential competition concerns. The EC is concerned that removing Goodrich as an independent supplier of fuel nozzles and engine controls, especially for smaller engines, could result in higher prices for engine manufacturers competing with Pratt & Whitney (a UTC company). The major EC concerns seem to be on the aftermarket services side where competition must be preserved. The EC will report some time before August 9, 2012.
