Congress has reached a bi-partisan compromise to end the partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration. No agreement has yet been reached on the issue of collective bargaining rights for airline workers, but that has been put on the back burner to ensure the agency gets back up and running. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the new deal would allow the Senate to approve a House bill extending the FAA’s operating authority through mid-September, including a provision that cuts $16.5 million in air service subsidies to rural communities.
