The Canadian airline industry is lobbying the federal government to lower taxes and fees on air travellers. At a Miami conference Vito Culmone, CFO of WestJet said: “We believe the taxes and fee structure in Canada are high, too high. We, along with other Canadian airline carriers, the airport authorities and the tourism industry are planning and working together to raise the profile of this issue in Ottawa. “We believe that we need a true analysis of the overall competitiveness of the Canadian aviation sector in light of the taxes and fee structure,” he added.
