Air Canada has been fined $50,000 by the US Department of Transportation for violating “deceptive price advertising” rules in online ads. Air Canada ads on its websites in early 2011 were found not to disclose taxes and fees tacked onto advertised fares. From January, all carriers will be required to include all government taxes and fees in advertised fares. Air Canada modified the banner ads within 24 hours of being notified to “improve clarity” calling this an “isolated occurrence”.
