SAA FORCED TO LEASE AIRCRAFT DUE TO POOR BALANCE SHEET

A poor balance sheet may force South African Airways (SAA) to lease rather than buy the 20 A320 aircraft it has on order for delivery in 2013.
The new Airbus aircraft are scheduled to replace the airline’s leased fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

An SAA spokesperson said: “How many we will buy or lease still has to be determined and depends on the funding we are able to secure. We have already held a road show in the US, which was well received, and are planning another one in Europe early in the New Year.”

In 2011 SAA will take delivery of six leased A330-300 aircraft from lessor AirCastle.
