Saudi Arabia airport expansion to start in 2011

Work on the expansion of Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, Sauid Arabia, is expected to start early next year.

Financing for the multi-billion dollar site is being fought over by eight consortia comprising national and international companies. A meeting has been arranged by the General Authority of Civil Aviation of all the consortia to answer queries of companies bidding for the contract before they present their financial and technical offers.

The first phase of the expansion project, to increase capacity to 25 million, will be completed by 2014. GACA designed the project, taking into consideration the growing number of Haj and Umrah pilgrims visiting the city.
