Haji-Ioannou calls off extraordinary meeting request

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has withdrawn his request for an extraordinary general meeting of the easyJet board of directors in order to remove a board member after the low-cost airline moved to increase its dividend payments. EasyJet’s founder is engaged in a protracted dispute with the low-cost airline and this month called for a vote to remove Rigas Doganis, a non-executive director, from the board. Carolyn McCall, EasyJet chief executive, said in a statement: “The board of EasyJet welcomes this withdrawal as it viewed an emergency general meeting as an unnecessary and costly distraction. “EasyJet looks forward to engaging constructively with EasyGroup as it does with its other shareholders.”
