Friends of the Earth has called on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to cut the lead content in the aviation fuel – a line it has been pushing since 2003. The EPA has identified 16 regions which have failed clean air standards on lead emissions. Some 20,000 airports in the US currently allow leaded fuel, which the activists say contributes to half of the country’s total lead air emissions.
