Canadian airline WestJet is in discussions with Emirates Airline about a potential alliance. Such a deal would be one way for the UAE airline to sidestep Canadian government refusal to grant more landing rights to UAE carriers in Canada. Gregg Saretsky, chief of WestJet confirmed it was talking to Emirates and several other airlines for potential alliances. The airline expanded its relationship with Cathay Pacific this year and initiated a partnership with American Airlines. Through alliances, WestJet hopes to expand into the Middle East, Africa and South America.
