Following its full takeover of Tigerair Australia, Virgin Australia says it will use the subsidiary carrier on international routes to better compete with Jetstar. The takeover of the remaining 40% of Tigerair Australia is does not own is still pending regulatory approval. Once approved, Virgin will gain rights to use the Tigerair brand on international routes but Tigerair will still be required to gain government approvals to begin international flights. Virgin Australia has confirmed that short-haul international destinations in Southeast Asia and New Zealand will be considered for Tigerair.
