VELVET SKY TO LAUNCH IN SOUTH AFRICA IN 2011

Velvet Sky a new airline flying between Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg is expected to start flights in 2011.

Its website states that “the countdown has begun” and has been advertising pilot vacancies. The airline’s backers have not yet been made public although the South African Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed it is evaluating an application for an air operator certificate for a company which it declined to name.

Local media reported that the SACAA said that the “evaluation of the application is at an advanced stage” and the process will be “concluded within a few weeks”. It also confirm that the airline will “offer scheduled commercial services to and from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.”
