Following in the footsteps of their US rivals, UAL Corp and Continental Airlines, which merged have both posted strong third quarter numbers. UAL, parent of the former United Airlines, posted a third-quarter net profit of $387 million compared with a loss of $57 million in 2009. Continental posted a net profit of $354 million compared with a loss of $18 million last year. UAL’s operating revenue was $5.39 billion, with Continental’s on $3.95 billion.
