In a protest over budget, pay and job cuts, staff at TAP plan to on March 21-23 – overlapping industrial action by staff at Iberia who plan intermittent stoppages between March 18-22. The TAP action has been endorsed by eight unions representing pilots and workers at the Portuguese carrier, which wants blanket public sector pay cuts of 10% to be halted for airline workers. They argue that since TAP has been profitable for two years and any losses are being absorbed by the airline rather than depend on public bailouts.
