Taiwan’s pilot vote to strike

The Taoyuan Union of Pilots, which includes China Airlines pilot, have overwhelmingly approved a motion to strike. This is the first time the employees of an airline have obtained the legal right to strike.

Union Chairman and China Airlines pilot, Yang Kuang-hai, has stated that that further discussions about strategy and logistics pertaining to the possible strike will be decided on Thursday.

The union is demanding the airline re-evaluate working hours and allotted days off, as well as changes to the company’s top-level management. The union has accused CAL Chairman Sun Hung-hsiang of mismanagement leading to the decline of in-flight service quality.
