Spirit Airlines could link ancillary fees to demand

Spirit Airlines is considering linking the fees it charges passengers to check in luggage or choose a specific seat at different rates depending on demand, which means at peak travel times, choosing a seat may become more expensive. Although conversely, for a night flight out of holiday season, the same fee could be much lower.

CEO Ben Baldanza stated in a recent press interview that on peak days there sometimes isn’t enough room in the belly of the aircraft for all the bags, while on other flights there are fewer suitcases.

“This is something we’ve been thinking about for a while,” Baldanza said. “It’s not a foregone conclusion.”
