Southwest Airlines has been granted one of eight nonstop flights to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The airline chose Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. Other airlines and cities selected for the new nonstop flights include Alaska Airlines, Portland, Ore.; Jet Blue, San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Virgin America, San Francisco. Airlines can only fly nonstop to Washington from undesignated cities further than 1,250 miles away. Each route exceeding that limit requires congressional authorization due to traffic concerns and noise.
