RYANAIR MULLS NEW SCOTTISH HUB

A UK newspaper has suggested that Ryanair is interested in using RAF Leuchars in Fife as a new Scottish airport.

RAF Leuchars is in line to be closed by the UK Ministry of Defence although no final decision has been made. Ryanair has not confirmed it is interested in the site but stated that a second Scottish hub is a possibility. The budget airline currently operates out of Edinburgh but a Fife airport could operate alongside the Scottish capital, said Stephen McNamara, Ryanair’s head of communications.

“A new airport would need to develop a unique selling point as a low-cost alternative to Edinburgh and would support price sensitive routes,” he said. “The issue for an airport in that part of Scotland is that it would have to offer pretty low fares because it is not a recognisable brand internationally.”
