Virgin America has posted a third-quarter loss of $3.3 million compared with its year-earlier profit of $7.5 million. High fuel prices were blamed for the loss. Revenues were up however by 44% compared the same period last year at $291 million. The number of passengers also rose by 38% to 1.4 million. Capacity on offer climbed 32% as it added aircraft and new routes. Unit revenue also grew by 9% and its average fare was up 5% to $195 one-way.
