Philippine Airlines is back in the air after being grounded following a wildcat strike yesterday. However the airline is only operating at 35-40% capacity today and thousands of passengers remain stranded. Yesterday’s strike was a last-ditch attempt by workers to alter PAL’s decision to outsource 2600 in-flight catering, airport services and call centre reservation jobs on October 1. PAL responded to the illegal action by bringing forward its outsourcing plan by a few days and immediately replaced the strikers with the cheaper labour.
