NORTH KOREA‘S STATE-OWNED CARRIER AIR KORYO HAS LAUNCHED WEEKLY FLIGHTS TO MALAYSIA

Air Koryo has operated charter flights direct from Pyongyang to Kuala Lumpur in the past few years and now has sufficient market strength to start twice weekly flights. It flew in 70 passengers from Pyongyang on its inaugural flight Monday. This takes the number of airlines operating at Malaysia’s main international airport to 58, the statement said.

Air Koryo also flies to Thailand, China, Russia, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, according to its website. Its operations are restricted due to its aging planes.

It has bought two Russian-made Tupolev TU-204s, allowing it to operate charter flights since last year to selected European destinations.
