Some 1600 licensed aircraft engineers at Qantas have announced they will begin strike action this week. A one-hour strike is planned between 8am and 9am on Friday. Steve Purvinas, national secretary of the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association was quoted as saying that they “will wind it up slowly”. Last minute talks to avoid a strike between Qantas management and the union representing the aircraft engineers failed this morning before a Fair Work Australia judge. Union engineers voted in favour of a strike last month if pay talks stalled. “Our number one concern throughout these negotiations has been job security,”
