National carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is reported to be considering selling MAS Engineering in a bid to return to profitability. By spinning off the business, the airline can focus on rescuing its core passenger airline. Other non-core businesses such as ground-handling, catering and maintenance could also be spun-off or sold as part of restructuring to help save the airline. Although no formal plan has been announced for the sale or pin-off of MAS Engineering, MAS Employee Union (MASEU) has indicated that it would oppose any move to sell MAS Engineering since the airline wouldn’t be able to secure the jobs
