Malindo Air seeks growth

Malindo Air Chief executive officer, Chandran Rama Muthy, has said that the airline aims to achieve six million passengers next year under its expansion programme. The airline will soon be flying to Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City next month and is looking at southern China and further points of Asia early next year.

“We have got the approval to fly to Jeddah from the Malaysian government and are now working with the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia to get the landing permit,” he said.

Malindo Air has most recently launched its new 11-time weekly services to Perth, Western Australia, its first route to Australia. Other routes to the country under consideration include Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to be launched next year.
Chandran has commented that the expansion plans may require larger aircraft in the future than its current fleet of 11 ATR72-600s and 16 737NGs, opining that the airline could order another 10 aircraft in a combination of different types.
The airline plans to turn a profit next year.
