Lufthansa is rumoured to be poised to order around 30 A320neo aircraft. The deal has been valued at $2.5 billion at list prices. As fuel prices continue to spike, more airlines will be attracted to the Neo simply for the more fuel-efficient engines. Airbus stated the new engines on the Neo – the geared turbofan engine built by Pratt & Whitney unit and the Leap-X from CFM International – would save 15% in fuel costs. Lufthansa already operates 117 A320 aircraft and has two A321s, 22 A319s and eight Embraer E195 regional jets on order for delivery starting in 2012.
