Lufthansa orders A380, E195 and assorted other Airbus aircraft

German flag carrier, Lufthansa has secured two A380s that were part of a cancelled order from another airline and will now receive them sooner than those already remaining on order. The offer was made by Airbus at very short notice and the deal is likely to have been very advantageous to Lufthansa to say the least. Lufthansa has already ordered 15 A380s, eight of which have been delivered. It was due to take delivery of the next five in 2015, but the two in Thursday’s order are set to be delivered in 2014. The order also includes one A330-300, four A320s and five Embraer 195s for its regional fleet, with the planes to be delivered in stages from 2012. Lufthansa was not ready to be specific about how it will finance the aircraft. Lufthansa is also currently looking at a possible order for the 787 and/or A350 and does have a chance to once again order on the back of another airline’s cancellation. A Lufthansa spokesman said yesterday’s order did not affect decisions on other orders and that the group was under no time pressure to decide on the A350 or the 787.
